Emergency Plan For Our Pets

Saturday, August 20, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

petsrescuedWe go through our day to day life caring for and loving our pets but do you have an emergency play in the event of a disaster? If not here are some guidelines to follow.

Ready.gov has outlined a great checklist to ensure that all of the necessary measures are taken.

ID your pet. Make sure your pet’s tags are up-to-date and securely fastened to your pet’s collar. If possible, attach the address and/or phone number of your evacuation site. If your pet gets lost, his tag is his ticket home. Also consider microchipping your pets.
Make sure you have a current photo of your pet for identification purposes.
Make a pet emergency kit. Download Preparing Makes Sense for Pet Owners for a full list of items to include in your pets kit.
Check out this quick list:

Identify shelters. For public health reasons, many emergency shelters cannot accept pets. Find out which motels and hotels in the area you plan to evacuate to allow pets well in advance of needing them. There are also a number of guides that list hotels/motels that permit pets and could serve as a starting point. Include your local animal shelter’s number in your list of emergency numbers.
Make sure you have a secure pet carrier, leash or harness for your pet so that if he panics, he can’t escape.

Thanks again to Ready.gov for providing this valuable information.

Seagull Bludgeoned To Death By Crazed Tourist

Saturday, August 20, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

SEAGULI usually sit on the beach at the end of the day when the sun is setting. It’s a beautiful, serene experience with the water glistening, the breeze blowing gently and the seagulls gliding across the colorful sky.

This is how it supposed to be at the beach but the peace was disrupted on Thursday here in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. At around 1:45pm, two tourists, a thirteen year old girl and her father were seen on the beach at Wilmington Ave. The thirteen year old girl was seen digging a hole in the stand. She then put food in the hole and waited for the seagulls to land and take the food. This misguided little girl stood there with a plastic toy shovel and swung at the seagulls as they landed in the hole. Her only purpose was to kill them and she did. After killing one gull, she disposed of it in a nearby trash can. She did all this while her father stood by laughing and encouraging her. Animal cruelty at it’s worst!  Rehoboth Beach police were quickly on the scene and arrested to girl and her crazy father. They were taken to jail where they spent the night. They were released on Friday on $500 bond.

What causes humans to be so cruel to animals? Think of how this girl will grow up with all of the violence being embedded in her brain!

So today when you are giving your dog, cat or bird their food, cleaning your birds cage, buying  dog or cat toys, putting your dog on his  leash to take  him for a long walk, think of some of the misguided, violent and downright evil people that are doing harm to our precious animals. We have to stop animal cruelty now and by the way, two more weeks till the tourists go home! I’m a happy camper!
