dogreflectNight time poses a risk for our pets. Here at the Delaware beaches, during the summer, there are many people on their bikes or mopeds at night. Police are giving bike lights to those riders that don’t have them so that they can see at night and others can see them. Most people on bikes or mopeds also wear reflective clothes.  This is necessary for protection because many roads are very dark. It is also necessary for our pets to be seen at night. In addition to making sure that your dog is tagged properly or is microchipped, he should be wearing a reflective dog collar. In the event he gets loose, at least he could be seen in the dark.

If your cat is an outdoor cat, it is also a good idea to get him/her a reflective cat collar so that cars could easily see him crossing in the dark.

A Tribute To Our Police and Police Dogs

policedogDogs are considered mans best friend for lots of reasons. They provide love and companionship for millions. Modern training methods have led dogs to become a integral part of many  lives. Guide dogs help the disabled, search and rescue as well asbomb sniffing dogs use their senses and perform their tasks better than humans can.

Few dogs are asked to give as much of themselves as police dogs.Today, police forces in most major cities use police dogs to track criminals, sniff out illegal materials, search buildings, and do other jobs human police officers can’t do as well as a dog can. These dogs don’t have the luxury of lying around all day in a comfy dog bed, or running in the park chasing their favorite dog toy. Instead they spend their day putting themselves in danger to help our police officers protect our citizens. There are thousands of police dogs on the job everyday working with our police in very dangerous situations.

So when you are putting on your dogs leash and are getting ready to take him out for a calm, pleasant walk, think of the dogs and police who put themselves in harms way to protect us. Both our police and our police dogs deserve respect and praise!
