Why Do Dogs Run Away During Fireworks?

Tuesday, July 5, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

dogfireworksOne of the biggest nightmare is for a dog owner to have their dog run away. They could break off their dog leash and before you know it they’re gone! Even the most well train dogs can get frightened on run away.According to the ASPCA, the most common time of year is on the Fourth of July. Dogs can hear much better than humans so the sound of fireworks can sound like the end of the world to your best friend. If there was no music or fireworks and you suddenly heard deafening bombs, you may run away too. You can’t calm your dog by offering dog treats or his favorite dog toys during this time. The noise will cause him to react.

According to a National Council of Pet Population Study and Policy, a family pet is lost every two seconds, amounting to more than 10 million pets lost each year. Although precise numbers are not available, shelters across the nation report that July 5 is historically their busiest day of the year for taking in strays.

How To Bathe A Parrot

parrotshowerLike all animals, Parrots need to be groomed. Parrots are very intelligent which can make grooming a bit tricky. The first step is to put a saucer of warm water at the bottom of your parrots cage. Many parrots will jump in and bathe themselves in the saucer. If your parrot is a little reluctant, place a treat or a favorite toy in the saucer to encourage her to go into it. . The next step is to mist your parrot with clean warm water, A spray that could simulate raindrops would be ideal.

Your could also let your parrot watch as you shower. Maybe she would like to shower with you. As you know parrots are very social creatures and love spending time with you. There are lots of bird accessories available and you may be able to find a special perch for your little friend so she can join you in the shower.

You can also try bathing your friend  in the sink by filling it with warm water. Place a few toys in the water and maybe your parrot would enjoy just splashing around.

To dry your parrot, place a dry towel on a flat surface and place a few treats or toys on the towel. When you parrot is on the towel gently fold the towel and dry her  carefully.
