The Best City For Pets
If you live in New York City or San Francisco, you’re not in the best city for pets. Apartments in both cities are tiny and there are few dog parks. So what’s the best city for pets? The answer is Portland, Oregon. First of all, it has the largest number of dog parks per capita than any other U.S. city. You have plenty of places to toss those dog toys around. You can also bring your pet to many places catering to humans. There are 19 pet message therapists in Portland. It’s one of the pet sitting site, Rover.com’s twenty best cities for pets. Portland also has relatively inexpensive veterinary care. Lots of people in Portland take their dogs everywhere because they can. Some restaurants even offer a dog menu. There are also plenty of boutique pet shops that supply the demand for high-quality dog food or cat food and treats for your pets.
Every park in Portland has a dog zone and being that it rains a lot in Portland, many parks have indoor dog parks.

Your Shy Dog
Dogs that are shy or wary of strangers have either had a bad experience with people or weren’t well socialized as puppies. Only positive experiences can build up their confidence. If your dog is one of these shy types, you’ll need a good strategy and lots of patience. Arrange to meet a friend when you’re out with your dog. Ask the person to stop and chat but ignore the dog. Don’t talk or even look at him. Wait until you see your dog is relaxed, them give him a dog treat then go on your way. Repeat this exercise often with that friend and others until your dog no longer tenses up in their company. The trick is to notice when your dog relaxes. That’s when you can praise him, pet him and offer treats maybe even buy him a new dog toy. In time, he’ll enjoy the challenge of meeting new people.
