Knowing the signs that death is near for a cat
One of the most difficult things that we have to go through is saying goodbye to a beloved pet. I was thinking today about my older cat Mollie. She is now 13 1/2 years old and thankfully in very good health but there will come a time when we will have to part. The thought of it gets me very upset since her and I have a very special bond.
Understanding the signs and symptoms of dying will help you prepare for your cat’s exit from this world, and possibly even allow you to make you rpets final moments more comfortable. As the cats body process begins to shut down, she will be reluctant to eat and drink. There will be a reduction in the amount of urine and feces released and the urine will become darker. Many cats become distracted during the dying process. They are not aware of what’s going on around them and often will stare into space.
Some cats also become disoriented and don’t recognize their owners as much anymore. They may become startled at noises or being touched. Take a very slow and gentle approach, Speak very softly, touch her lightly and move her with great care.
As death approaches, her breathing will be rapid and shallow. She may become restless and as her body temperature decreases, she may no longer be able to move her limbs.
I don’t even like writing about this subject but it’s alway better to be prepared and make your pet as comfortable as possible in her last days.
