Aggressive Cats

Wednesday, November 20, 2013
posted by Jim Murphy

AGGRESSIVE CATCat owners report that biting is one of the most common behavioral problems. It comes in second only to inappropriate urination. The reason for this is the cats have varied personalities just as humans do. Early experiences can have an impact on cat aggression but genetic diversity is the main cause of the problem. Some cat owners simply try to tolerate the behaviors but some can’t deal with them and try to find a cure. Aggressiveness can be a real problem for cat owners. Cat bites can hurt and lead to infections.

Don’t encourage any rough play, scratching and biting. Be sure that all family members understand this rule. You may try clapping your hands every time your cat tries to stalk you. Fill a can with pennies and rattle it when he does not behave. This will re-direct his attention.  These startling techniques can make your kitten shy. I would prefer not encouraging the behavior and wait until your kitten grows out of it.
