Dental disease is one of the most common problems in cats. It’s usually caused by the buildup of tartar on a cats teeth. When tartar accumulates, the gums become irritated and that can lead to infections and tooth loss. Some cats have a tendency toward more tartar buildup just because of the chemistry of their mouths. These cats may need special cleanings several times a year. Most cats can maintain clean teeth through regular brushing (yes, there’s even beef flavored toothpaste that they like!) and a tartar controlled diet. If you notice bad breath or a change in your cats eating habits, these can be signs of a dental infection. Get him in his cat carrier and get to the vet as soon as possible. Your veterinarian can provide more information about keeping your cats teeth healthy.
