When a dog’s prostate becomes enlarged, it becomes a target for cysts and infections. You can tell whether or not your dog has a problem with his prostate. He will strain to urinate or he could have blood in his urine.  If his case is severe, he could become very ill or even collapse. Prostate disease is most common in non neutered dogs.  Even so,  all male dogs should be examined annually for prostate disease especially if the dog is a little older. Your vet will determine whether the prostate is the appropriate size and in the right position and whether it’s irregular or smooth. If your vet finds any abnormalities, pet medication, surgery or neutering may be recommended to correct the problem.

There are several dogs that are great for seniors but today we’ll talk a little about the Beagle. The beagle is a great choice when it comes to seniors. Care for the beagle is basic, they can live for approximately 14 years. They are playful and great for the grand kids. Beagles were once considered a watch dog. They’re known for their loud bark and howl. The Beagle’s weight is approximately 30 pounds. If you’re a senior looking for a new best friend, consider the Beagle. You won’t be alone!

If you’ve never had a dog, training can be a very frustrating experience. We will try to make this situation a little easier for you. Here are some tips which may help.

  • Begin training your pup as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be.
  • Pay close attention as to when your puppy has to go. They will always have to go immediately after they eat, play or wake up. Take them out at these times and reward them with a dog treat when they do their business outside.
  • If you are crate training, never leave your puppy in the crate for more than four hours at a time. A puppy cannot hold it that long and you don’t want to get them used to going in their dog crate.
  • Socialize your puppy as soon as possible. Get him used to being around other people and pets. This will prevent him from becoming aggressive later on.
  • Never train your dog when you’re upset. If you’re angry, your pup will sense this and associate fear with going outside to do his business.

Be patient, this process will improve over time.

Remember, your pets count!

Can Departed Pets Return for A Visit?

My Molly has been gone for almost four weeks now. She is greatly missed. I’m convinced that our pets have souls and cross that beautiful rainbow bridge and wait for us on the other side. I also believe that they may pay us a visit every now and then just to let us know that they are OK. Since Molly’s passing, there have been several instances where I believe she came back to check up on me. The first was in a very real dream. I felt  myself leave my body and arrive at Savannah Animal Hospital where I was last with Molly. Molly was lying on the counter and as I pet her, she got up and jumped on my shoulder. I pet her head and felt her fur so soft and smooth. It was unbelievably real! I suddenly felt myself, move backward, Molly began to fade and I wound up back in my body lying in my bed. Needless to say I was very sad but also happy because I believe that was a message that she was OK.

A few nights ago while I was watching TV, there were three times that I could swear I saw Molly go into the laundry room, walk down the hall toward me and sit where her food bowls were. I believe she may have been her checking on me. The next day Jim came from the bathroom and swore that  he saw Molly sitting by the bathroom door like she always did.

The bond with our pets is very strong. I strongly believe that their little bodies are restored to a perfect state and they are living in pure bliss and love waiting for us to arrive on the other side.
