Older Cats and Mental Confusion

Thursday, September 1, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

catmeowJust like humans, an older cat may experience some mental confusion or cognitive disfunction. As a result, she may meow a bit more or pause when going to her cat food dish. Right now, my at Millie is sitting on the chair meowing. In this case, I think she wants attention. Older cats sometimes cry at night for no apparent reason. A night light sometimes can help if a cat becomes disoriented at night. If you see that your older cat is crying more at night or experiencing some form of confusion, take her to the vet as soon as you can. He may be able to prescribe some form of pet medication to easy these symptoms.
