Recently Jim and I lost a very good friend to cancer. These past few days have been quite difficult for us.  We go through a complicated mesh of emotions but generally a cloud of sadness looms overhead. Thanks to getting together with some  old friends over the past few days, the sadness has eased a bit but doesn’t go away. It varies in degrees for a long time.

Our pets could also ease that sadness. They provide us with companionship and comfort during these difficult times. A dog is a wonderful companion who is there for you no matter what. He always seems to understand what you’re going through and demonstrates compassion and loyalty throughout this difficult process. Cats are also good companions in times of loss. Even though they are more subtle, they are there for you and and provide a calming affect. It is comforting when a cat sits on your lap and gently purrs providing peace and serenity. Our pets help get you through the complicated emotional process of losing a loved one.

Here my cat Atlantis sits with me while I write this blog. I’m glad he’s here. His presence soothes and comforts me.
