Do cats go crazy during storms? Should you give them pet medication to calm them down.

cat-hidingDogs are known for trembling and tearing up the house during thunderstorms. Do cats suffer from storm phobia too?  If a storm is very severe, my cats will find a quiet place to hide until it subsides. Some cats do suffer as much as dogs do but cats react differently than dogs. Most cats with these fears and phobias just hide like mine do. I believe that it is more traumatic to pull the cat out from under a couch and give it pet medication to calm her down. I would just leave her in her safe hiding place until the storm is over. If you have a cat that doesn’t hide during storms but may get a little nervous, give her some special treats to take her attention away from the storm. In any case, cats will not destroy the house like dogs might  during severe thunderstorms.
