Teaching Your Dog To Stay

If you just adopted a puppy or even a full grown dog, you will really want to teach him to stay. The worst thing is when a new pup jumps on anyone entering your home. Here’s a quick easy process to achieve this goal.
Make sure that you dog follows the “sit” command before moving on to “stay.”
- Ask your dog to “sit.”
- Open the palm of your hand in front of you and say “stay.”
- If he stays, take a few steps back and reward him with a dog treat and some affection.
- Gradually increase the number of steps before giving him the dog treat.
- Aways reward your dog with a dog treat even if he just stays for a few seconds.
Sometimes it may take awhile before your dog learns to follow this command. Don’t be discouraged. Puppies have high energy and will take a lot longer. Keep at it, he’ll get it!
