kittens sleepingYour cat can sleep up to 16 hours each day but there are different cycles of sleep that you cat experiences throughout the day.

  1. The catnap – This is a brief, light snooze. During the catnap, your cat’s body is not completely at rest. He can jump up and run around in seconds. Cat naps last about 30 minutes or so.
  2. Night Sleep – Cats have two measurable sleep periods throughout the night. How soundly he sleeps depends on his diet, environment and age. Fat cats sleep more than skinny cats and older cats sleep more than younger cats.
  3. Deep Sleep – Cats can go into a deep sleep day or night. Their body is completely relaxed and they are usually lying flat or curled up. His paws, legs, and facial muscles may move and twitch, which leads us to assume  that the cat is dreaming. The experts say that cats do dream . Another sign of a deep sleep is REM (rapid eye movement)  You can see your cats eyeballs moving under her closed eyelids.
