Car Travel Safety Tips For Your Pet

PET CARSummer is in full swing and I’m sure that you’re planning car trips with your pet. Here are some safety tips to remember.

  1. Never let your dog ride in the back of an open truck.
  2. Never leave your dog or cat unattended in a closed vehicle. We’ve discussed this many times. Temperatures could rise to a deadly level very quick!
  3. Stop frequently for potty breaks and exercise. It’s a good idea to give your dog fresh water at this point.
  4. Even though he may love it, don’t let your dog ride with his head out of an open window.
  5. Keep your car well ventilated. I really can’t stand to see cars full of luggage, a pet crate with a pet inside usually cramped, crooked among a bunch of blankets and luggage  riding in 90 degree heat with no air conditioning. I see this many times. Use your head while packing your car.!!!!
  6. Bring extra collars, leashes, water bowls and food for your pet.
  7. You can avoid car sickness by letting your dog ride on an empty stomach but make sure that he has plenty of fresh water.

Have a great car trip with you pet. Make sure that you keep him safe.
