Do you ever notice that your cat looks grumpy sometimes?  His body language will show you that he’s a little peeved about something.  What are the things that will make your cat upset? First of all, cats hate dirty, stinky litter boxes.  They may even look for other places to go outside the box. If you think about it, how disgusting is it to use a portable, outside potty? Your cat feels the same way.

Cats also hate taking medicine. It can be difficult getting a cat to swallow a pill. It’s even worse if you expect them to swallow pills dry. Sick cats need medicine and there are several ways to make taking pills not so bad for him.

Spoiled food not only smells bad, but it’s unhealthy for  cats to eat. Cats d0n’t like it. In the summer, if your not in an air conditioned environment, only leave wet for out for 30 minutes.

You may be surprised to hear that the majority of calico cats are female.  Is it possible for a calico cat to ever be a male?  First off, you must understand what a calico cat is. Is not a cat breed but rather a color pattern. Three colors are always present, black, white and orange. Most are female because of genetics. Coat color in cats is a sex linked trait. Female animals have two X chromosomes (XX), males have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome (XY). The coding for black or orange coloring is found in the X chromosome . White coloring is a separate gene. Since females have two X chromosomes, they can display two colors such as orange and black or variations. They can also display white creating a three color mix.  Males have only one X chromosome and can display orange OR black. So can a calico cat ever be male. Yes in very rare cases where the male cat has two X chromosomes.

Some people have a fascination for owning exotic pets. These pets are often wild and dangerous and can cause injuries. Most often because of their paws and teeth, It is illegal to own an exotic pet in the United States and Canada.

Venomous snakes are banned for obvious reasons. Chimpanzees can be aggressive and can even be cannibalistic. Leave these animals to the professionals who know how to handle them.  Crocodiles and alligators start out as small, cute hatchlings but they grow quickly and in a short period of time,they can reach several feet in length and hundreds of pounds. These animals have very powerful jaws capable of doing a lot of damage. Do yourself a favor, stick with a dog or a cat.

Cats love to play but purchasing a variety of cat toys can get expensive.  So why not make your own? A tightly wadded ball of paper,an empty toilet paper tube, a ping pong ball or a brown paper bag are some of the simplest cat toys.  If you want to put a little more effort into it, tie three feet of string onto a stick and dangle it like a fishing pole. I used the plastic ring on a milk carton and attached it to a piece of string and it became my cat’s favorite toy.  You can also make a cat nip toy out of the top end of an old sock.  Just cut it off at the heel, put in some cat nip and stitch it closed. A plastic bottle with a secure lid can be partially filled with rice to make a rolling rattle.  Figure out what your cat likes, get creative and make sure that you always supervised her playtime when you make the toys.

There’s nothing like sitting on a cool, quiet beach on a beautiful Spring afternoon and seeing people, only a few people  and several with their dogs. The dogs were romping around, catching balls and splashing in the cold ocean. Yesterday, I spent this afternoon on Rehoboth Beach enjoying the tranquility and watching families and canine friends having a great time in the sun.

Can anyone let their dog run free on the beach? Here’s my take. If your dog has been socialized and gets along well with other dogs and  had basic command training then I think it’s safe to let him run free on an empty beach. Dogs must be watched very closely all the time. Last year I found a dog wandering on the boardwalk apparently lost and scared. I led him over to the beach where he saw his owners looking frantically for him. All ended well as the dog dashed over and reunited with his loved ones. The beach is great for dogs. They love the sand, freedom, water and  exercise. If you take your dog to the beach, act responsibly. Make sure your dog gets along with other dogs, responds to commands and has your complete attention all the time.
