There are several expensive cat breeds but the ones that are the most expensive to adopt is the Bengal cat and the Savannah Cat. The Bengal cat has short hair and are a hybrid from the domestic feline and an Asian Leopard Cat. Most of the time, this cat is fairly active so make sure that you provide plenty of cat toys.  They also enjoy being around people which makes them a great house cat. The price tag of Bengal cat ranges from hundreds to thousands  of dollars.

The Savannah cat is a medium size cat.  These breeds are loyal, social and love to play.  Savannah cats can cost as much as $20,000.

The Scottish Fold is a spoiled cat and often meows a lot to get attention. It comes from a natural gene mutated breed and has “foldable” ears. The price of these cats range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.

Once and awhile there’s a little tiff between my two feline babies. This morning after I fed my cats Millie and Atlantis, I heard a scuffle. Atlantis chased Millie across the room and cornered her. Millie doesn’t like to be cornered. I heard some loud “meows” then immediately I  strongly said “stop.” This broke up the brawl.

It’s common for cats to play or chase each other and sometimes they into a little territorial war.  When my two cats get into a scuffle, I believe it’s an attention getting device. It never seems to happen at night when we’re sleeping. There’s really nothing we can do to prevent this behavior but we can make sure that we give both cats an equal amount of attention. Feed both at the same time and diffuse the negative behavior anytime we see it.

Always make sure that there’s plenty of hiding places for both cats and make sure that you treat both equally. For example, if you give a treat to one cat, give it to the other at the same time. When feeding, feed both cats a the same time and in different places.

Your kids probably don’t always get along so it’s the same for our feline friends.

I woke up this morning and the temperature outside was 20 degrees here in Delaware. It’s over 20 degrees below normal and it’s  very  unusual for this area, this time of year. So is it too cold to take our furry friends outside? Topdogtips.com point out a few guidelines to follow.

The easiest way to know how to keep dogs warm in the winter is to learn when it’s too cold for dogs to go outside. This means knowing what the temperature outside is with the wind chill factor AND knowing whether other serious conditions are expected.

When it’s 20˚ F outside, it’s too cold for any dog to be walking. Above 20˚ F it may still be too cold to walk if conditions are icy, very windy, or if your dog is very young, old, or has a compromised immune system. If it is safe to go out, make sure to keep walks short and keep your pup wrapped up warm with their feet protected.

2. Invest in a Winter Jacket or Sweater for Your Dog

Not all dogs will benefit from a sweater or jacket, but many dogs can. Hairless breeds should always wear some type of winter dog clothing in cold climates. Short haired and small breeds should also always wear a sweater or jacket to help keep them insulated during winter.

You should also always consider getting a jacket or sweater for your elderly dog, sick dog, young puppy, or immune-compromised dog.

The most important member of any therapy dog team is the handler.  You’re the one who must make the commitment and then follow a schedule of regular visits.  To make sure it’s an activity that’s suited to you, find a therapy handler working nearby and ask if you can accompany her on several visits. Just you, without your dog.  Your best canine friend may or may not be a good therapy dog candidate. Besides having good obedience skills, he has to be willing to meet and act with strangers, work well with other dogs and react calmly to distractions and stress. To test your dogs basic temperament, socialize. Take him into the community to face new people and new situations.  He’ll let you know if he likes it.  Give him an extra dog treat for hard work and good behavior.

Sometimes it’s convenient to take our best friends out to eat with us but many establishments do not allow pets. You can go to a drive through but will have to take your food home or eat in the car. Many restaurants do have outside dining but you need to make sure that your pooch is welcome. First, make sure you can access the outdoor seats without having to walk through the inside of the restaurant. Second, find a restaurant that does not serve food outside. It’s better to find sidewalk seating where your can buy your food inside and take it outdoors to eat. Always ask because even some of these places may not allow pets. When you do find that perfect place to dine with your dog, make sure that he follows good etiquette. Here are some guidelines.

Make sure your pooch is well-behaved around other people and especially children.

– Leash your four-legged friend and keep him or her from socializing with other diners or employees, unless welcomed.

– Try to keep your dog close to your table or chair so he or she is not in the waiter’s path. Dogs are not allowed on the chairs or tables.

– Bring your own doggie bowl or ask the waiter for a paper or plastic bowl or cup for water if necessary. Pets are not permitted to eat or drink out of restaurant glasses or dishes, unless they are disposable.

– Remember to tie your dog to your chair and not a table. A dog tied to a table can result in spilled drinks or food if he or she is strong enough to make the table move.

– Always call ahead or ask first to make sure an establishment allow dogs at their outdoor tables.

If you have a busy schedule and you are thinking about getting a dog, you may want to choose a breed that likes to lie around, like a couch potato. You may also want to choose a dog that’s low maintenance when it comes to grooming.  For example, a small, short haired dog such as a Chihuahua will not need as much grooming as a long haired Golden Retriever.  Boxers and Beagles are also easier to groom. Their short hair is not prone to mats and you could easily remove ticks if you need to.  Always remember, no matter what breed you choose, your dog will still need lots of attention.  He may not shed as much as a Sheep dog or run as much as a Collie, but he will still need regular walks, exercise and grooming sessions. So when thinking about a dog, don’t forget about that dog leash and frisbee just yet. If your schedule requires that you work long hours or have to travel frequently, consider a cat instead. It’s just not fair for the dog.

My cat Atlantis is a long haired Himalayan Siamese. I’m guilty of spoiling our two cats Millie and Atlantis.  This morning I was awaken by loud meows from Atlantis our newest addition.  I  figured that he was hungry and  opened a can of the food I have been giving him for the past few weeks. It’s for cats with sensitive skin and stomach. He turned his nose up to it. I should have left it at that but no, I opened another can of food, this one was the same brand but it had chicken instead of lamb. He gobbled it up. He’s a very spoiled kitty and it’s our fault. Atlantis seems to get board with foods pretty fast so I will mix the flavors up and see what happens.

We love our furry friends and it’s easy to spoil them. Both of our cats are spoiled and know that they will eventually get what they want if they persist.

We learn something new everyday about our furry friends. Our cat Atlantis whom we adopted about 3 and a half months ago loves the water fountain that we have for them in the laundry room. I noticed that periodically he would seem to sneeze for a few moments. I immediately thought that he may have a cough or cold and my mind went to more serious places. Then I noticed him drinking from the fountain. He drinks from the point the water comes out and seems to stick his nose right in the water. I then noticed that he sneezes when he’s done drinking. What’s happening is that water is getting up his nose because of the way he drinks. His sneezing only starts after he drinks from the fountain and specifically when he drinks at the spout where the water comes out.

We must take notice of our pet’s habits, they may be able to explain many things about them!
