Changing Cat Food

Monday, July 29, 2019
posted by Jim Murphy

We’ve recently adopted a Siamese/Himalayan cat from a neighbor who could no longer care for him. I’ve been feeding both of my cats a mixture dry and wet food. For the past several years I’ve been using a higher grade Purina for both the wet and dry food. I’ve decided to give both of our feline friends a much higher quality food. I’ve chosen Wellness and Nuro which are considered some of the best food for cats.  I started yesterday by adding a small amount of the new food to the old food and will increase the portion of new food each day until I’m feeding them only the new food. This could take some time and I anticipate that both cats will be on the new food within two weeks.

Why is it necessary to to slowly add in the new food? The reason is that cats have sensitive digestive systems. A sudden transition may upset their stomach resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Make sure that when changing cat food, do it slowly.

Remember, your pets count.
