There are several benefits that your dog can derive from crate training but there are things to keep in mind with this training. For one, crates are not meant to be permanent indoor houses for your dog. As such, your dog isn’t meant to be cooped up in his crate for long periods of time. And spending time in the crate should certainly never be used as a punishment. Many people make this mistake. If your dog has done something wrong, don’t ever send him to his crate. He will only learn to associate the crate with punishment.

With dog crates, you also want to make sure you indulge in a crate that’s big enough to accommodate the dog, his water dish, his food, and even some of his preferred toys. You can make the crate more comfortable and accommodating by adding a couple of dog crate pads as well. Also keep an eye open for potential health problems in your dog. If your dog is feeling nauseous, for example, don’t confine him in his crate. This can only lead to a seriously compounded problem.

It’s been a week since we lost our beloved cat Molly. We will be heartbroken for a long time to come. The house feels empty and I’m always expecting her to jump of on my lap or wait by the bathroom door for a brushing. When we lose a pet, we go into a grieving process just as we do when a human passes.

The doctors at Savannah Animal Hospital in Lewes, Delaware were very kind and caring during this very difficult process. They assured me that taking Molly out of her pain was the best thing that I could have done for her. Never the less, it’s a very difficult decision and one of the worst things I ever had to do in my life.

A few days ago, we received a beautiful plant and card with a very special message inside. This was a very kind gesture and comforting to know that some people realize that our pets are not just animals but rather intricate members of our family. They have a soul and provide unconditional love better that any human can.

I am still grieving on the loss of by beloved cat Molly. I believe that she was a special gift to me and that I will be reunited with her in heaven. This week, I’ve been rummaging through various passages, scriptures and reading interpretations of various religious scholars trying to find proof that we will be reunited with our pets in heaven. I find that those who take every single word of the bible literally believe that animals are not on the same plane as humans and do not have a soul. I totally disagree and that’s the reason why I feel that beliefs of many evangelicals that do not dig any deeper than what’s written on a page of the bible and take every single word literally are not giving God enough credit. Many passages of the bible topics contradict each other. Some religious leaders take one passage and focus only on that rather than look at all passages relating to that topic. There are more passages that indicate that our pets will share paradise with us than those that say the opposite.

Here is may take on this subject. God had created every living creature on earth. He indicates time and time again that if we believe, we will have eternal life. Our beloved pets complete us and yes they do have souls. Why would God create a place for us that is not complete? Why would the animals be prevented from entering paradise? So my vision of the afterlife includes every creature that we have on earth. Our pets are bonded to us so therefore they will be re-united to us when we enter Heaven.

I hope this comforts those who are feeling as I do now.

This past weekend, we lost our beloved cat Molly passed away due to advanced kidney disease. On Saturday morning, she was behaving normal. She slept next to me. We got up, she took her medicine, she ate and was sitting with us as we watched our Saturday morning TV shows. At 2:00 pm, I dropped Jim off at work and was back home in twenty minutes. I found Molly in distress. She was urinating and vomiting all over and couldn’t stop. She couldn’t get comfortable, couldn’t sit. She roamed the house looking for some comfort. I wanted so bad to ease her discomfort but I could do nothing.  She was rushed to the animal hospital. The doctors found that she had lost another pound and a half since her last visit in November. She was now below six pounds. I didn’t want her to suffer although I wanted her back home with me so bad. The doctors reminded me that her disease had advanced that there was no reversing the situation at this point. She would never recover and only get worse or may not even make it through this episode. I made the most difficult decision of my life and decided to let her go. The doctors at the hospital concurred and said the I made the right decision. Right now, along with the horrible empty feeling that I have inside me. I’m feeling very guilty and keep telling myself, maybe I should have taken her home and tried again to keep her stable although deep inside I knew this decision would be very selfish on my part.

For almost nineteen years, Molly was with us through everything. She provided unconditional love no matter what. I would be comforted every single day coming home knowing that she was there waiting. She loved us and always spent her time with us wherever we were. eating, reading, watching TV, sleeping, and traveling down to Delaware. She seemed to know whether I was happy, sad, frustrated etc. She knew how to get her way and I always gave in. I believe that she knew me better than anyone in this world.

While hearing of friends traveling from here to there, I have no regrets that I chose to take care of Molly during her ailing days. I am so thankful that I didn’t have to deal with a hectic work schedule and was able to be with her, making sure she ate, was comfortable, took her medication, was staying hydrated and just bonding with her. I learned that unconditional love is stronger than anything on this earth and that love never dies. This is the most precious gift that I received from my beloved Molly -totally unconditional love stronger and better than anything in this world including sitting on a plane and going to a far away place.

I am sorry for people who never experienced the love of a pet. They are really missing out on one of the most precious gifts on earth! Material things are just that material, they mean nothing, they don’t stay with us, they fade and provide only immediate gratification.

If you are grieving the loss of a pet, I encourage you to read The Rainbow Bridge. It will provide you with lots of comfort. I believe that we will meet our beloved pets again on the other side of that bridge. They are waiting patiently for us as soon as we make our way to that bridge. They will be alive, vibrant, and spend eternity with us all because of unconditional love. They are bonded to us together forever. That’s the key to eternal life, not fire and brimstone and fear. Love and light pave the way to eternity. So Molly will be there at that bridge when I get there.

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday and millions of TV’s will be tuned to the big game. There are lots of us like myself who are really not at all interested in football and really don’t care who wins. Now I appreciate that this is an American tradition but for some reason I have never had an interest in sports. So what are your alternatives? You can catch a movie, go to a fine restaurant or take a little drive. You can be assured that being that everyone is glued to their TV’s  you can do anything you’d like. When I lived in New Jersey and traveled to Delaware on weekends, the roads were especially clear on Superbowl Sunday. They were even more clear then on holidays like Christmas or Thanksgiving. Our four hour trip took 3 1/2 on Superbowl Sunday!

My cat Molly is very attached to me as you well know by now. I cater to her every need since she is almost 19 and has a host of medical issues that need to be tended to. Molly is used to all of my attention and when she doesn’t get it, she appears to get mad. Not in a mean way but more of a hurt way. When I’m at my computer working on my radio station, she’ll quietly come in and try to distract me. She’ll sit by me waiting for me to give her a pet or two. She then seems to get upset that I’m spending too much time on my computer and not with her. She then”storms out.” Yesterday Molly was sitting on my lap as she normally does in the evening. I got a phone call and was talking to a friend for quite a long time. Molly got up and left and went into the bedroom and sat by herself. I could swear that she was upset that I was on the phone. As soon as I ended the conversation, she came back to my lap and was cozy and comfy as usual.

Sometimes a cat’s behavior could be caused by competing over different resources such as territory, food or the owners affection as the case with Molly. Sometimes a cat can be stressed over change.Whatever has changed in kitty’s little world scare him or her leading to fear induced aggression. We may be able to pinpoint the change to a newly adopted cat, a baby or a new boyfriend, but that doesn’t mean the cat is jealous of them. It’s more likely that Kitty just needs help with adjusting to the new situation.

It’s always good to know your cat and understand what they are feeling. I will continue to spoil Molly and understand that at  times she may not be too happy with me!
