Divorce will Affect Your Best Friend!

coupledogDivorce is one of the most stressful times in anyone’s life but it can also be very stressful for your dog. A dog is a social animal bonded to a family routine and a way of life. Our dogs rely on us for their physical, mental and emotional welfare. Unfortunately, our dogs are never given consideration when it comes to our family matters. Most people don’t say “Lets not scream, the dog is in the other room.” But you know what? They should say this. Our behavior can cause our pets a lot of stress that could affect their overall health. Our moods and tantrums have a very negative affect on our dogs. They don’t deserve it! When I am stressed and yell, it affects my cats and I do feel guilty because I know that they are stressed out. Several days ago, I had a loud conversation with AT&T for additional charges on my bill. My cats left the room until I was finished. It was clear that they got stressed out.

If a dog is suddenly becoming destructive, or is howling and barking a lot, Animal Behaviorists will ask if there was a divorce or death in the family. Remember our animals can sense when something is wrong. Have consideration for your pet. Keep him healthy and happy and off of pet medication.

dogurinateAfter years of research, scientists have found that certain compounds in cranberries can prevent urinary tract infections in humans. The compounds don’t actually kill the bacteria, it would take an antibiotic to do that but the cranberry compounds can act as a preventative. Amy Howell who is an associate research scientist at Rutgers University says that the disease causing bacteria cannot stick to the bladder wall and lose their ability to multiply. The bacteria is then washed out of your system. She says that the same process works in dogs. Not all cranberry products are equal. Try to choose a product that is lower in sugar. Ask your veterinarian for cranberry products that have hard hitting bio active properties. So hold off on the pet medication until you try a cranberry product for your dog’s urinary tract. Hopefully the cranberry will do the trick and you will reduce the number of times you have to go for that dog leash and take Rover for a walk!
