A Dog Who Does Not What Guests to Come and Go

chihuahuabarkingA number of years ago when I had a Chihuahua, he would go crazy when anyone would enter or leave my house. He scared guests so much that they would return to their seats until I picked him up and made sure that they were out of harms way. One guest was even bitten! Luckily no blood was drawn! I needed to teach him to do something else when people left my house. I told him to sit and remain calm and rewarded him with treats. I had a guest walk to the door, if he didn’t bark, I would reward him with a dog treat. I then had the guest walk back into the living room again, then walk again to the door. If my dog remained quiet, I would give him another dog treat. Eventually my guest left. This did help but my dog had to be constantly reminded to sit and be quiet when someone would get up to leave. Eventually he did it on his own. It is not necessary to put your dog in his dog crate or dog carrier while your guests are visiting. You must persist and your dog will eventually learn. Once he learns, usually he will never forget. At least my guests were no longer suggesting that I put my poor little dog in the microwave!!! (of course they were kidding…..I hope!)

Stylish Pet Carriers

catstrollerI was at the vet’s office yesterday and saw a women stroll in wheeling her 19 pound in a stroller. It was a cat carrier made in to stroller. She said that this was a life saver for her since she had difficulty lifting her cat in a regular carrier. There are so many cool pet carriers to choose from.

With Hollywood starlets always carrying their pets around with them, it’s becoming increasingly trendy to have a teacup poodle safely stored away in your handbag. And if you’re the proud owner of a small dog, this might be a desirable option. It’s also great if you take your pet with you when you travel. But you aren’t necessarily out of luck if you have a slightly larger dog. For these pets, there is a wide selection of larger pet carriers. While you can’t carry around a German Shepherd or Great Dane, a midrange pet carrier does make it possible to carry dogs over five pounds.

A pet carrier also has some distinct advantages over your standard handbag. For one, handbags are not specifically designed for pet transport. As such, a pet could be uncomfortable or even slightly injured on something like a sharp or jagged zipper. But don’t worry. You don’t have to abandon the fashion expert in you. These pet carriers can offer both attractive styling and total pet comfort.
