dogautobarrierSummer is almost here and with that goes more traveling with our dogs. Dog auto barriers and dog crates will keep your dog safe while traveling in SUV’s. Dog’s that can move around freely can endanger themselves as well as the other passengers. The barrier keeps everyone safe by creating a strong wall between the front and back seat. Your dog will stay safely in the back seat or cargo area even in your car stops suddenly. You no longer have to fear that your dog will wind up on the console by jumping through the seats. Unlike the hammock style back seat systems, the auto barrier can be left in place since the seat is still fully usable.A dog crate will protect your dog from being injured if a car stops short. It is important to make sure that you and your pet stays safe while traveling. I’ve heard of a dog jumping onto to the console and actually put the car into neutral while rolling down the highway at 65 mph! Luckily this did not cause a major accident since the highway was not too crowded at the time and the driver acted quickly got the car back into “drive.” So protect you and your pet and consider an auto barrier or secure him in his dog crate.

Giving Your Dog A Bath

dogbathI know someone who takes his dog into the shower with him everyday! His dog smells “like a rose” everyday. He doesn’t have a large dog and he has a large walk in shower. This is not practical for most people. Dogs have essential oils on their coats. The oils are necessary for your pets health and well being. Did you ever wet a dog and notice that they don’t get very wet? That’s because some dogs have thick oils. You have to wet them again and then use a dog shampoo to get them wet. Some dogs produce oils faster than others. I would recommend bathing your dog once a month. If your dog has dry skin, use an oatmeal based shampoo. Use a conditioner as it helps prevent dry, itchy, irritable skin. Some dogs have super dry skin. After a bath, they will scratch and appear very uncomfortable. That’s why using a conditioner is important. Bathing your dog once a month should be sufficient even though you will notice your dogs odor before that. Time to break out the pet odor remover and maybe some dog treats as well!
