Choosing Safe Cat Toys

cattoyIf you’re like me, you love your cat and are always looking to keep her occupied with new cat toys. Keeping your cat occupied is important to her health. She’ll get more exercise which will keep her trim and fit. Plenty of toys to occupy her time will help prevent bad behavior such as clawing on the furniture. Certain cat toys could be harmful to your cat. Avoid string, rubber bands, thread, needles and twine. These things are not safe. If any of these things get lodged in her intestines, surgery may be the only thing that will save her. Items like buttons, small pieces of plastic, aluminum foil are also dangerous because they can get stuck in your cats intestines and cause blockages or preforation. Bottle or bottle caps that previously contained cleaners are toxic. Do not let your cat play with them. Cats enjoy cat toys such as stuffed mice, balls fishing poles and other stuffed items. These are safe and encourage your cat to play. One last piece of advice, do not use your hand as a toy. Your cat will get in the habit of scratching and biting it. This will cause aggessive behavior which you don’t want especially if you are having guests over. Cat toys are available everywhere. Choose the right ones. Your cat will love you for it.

Keeping Your Cat’s Coat Shiny

CATSHINYA shiny coat is usually a sign of a healthy cat. The key to a healthy, shiny coat is in the cat food that you feed to your cat. There are many brands of cat food on the supermarket shelves but these brands aren’t always the best. New companies came along with “premium” foods, which don’t contain ingredients such as “meat by-products” or “meat meal.” Chemical preservatives, including BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin, and propyl gallate, which have been shown to cause cancer in lab animals, are now rarely used as preservatives. Brands such as Wellness, or Nutro are all natural and don’t contain preservatives. These foods do not contain by products and real fish, poultry or meat is always the first on the ingredient list. Sometimes Vets don’t recommend these brands but here’s an example of a vet that was impressed with the results.

It [Nutro] was not recommended by my vet, but when he saw them for their fixing time (about 1 month after I started feeding Nutro and two months since their initial tests), he was enthralled by how beautiful they looked. Everyone at the vet’s office raved over how healthy they were.

These foods are a bit more expensive but well worth the investment in your feline friends good health!
