Cats Claws Need Trimming

Wednesday, January 1, 2014
posted by Jim Murphy

CAT COUCHI usually trim my cats claws but I misplaced the trimming scissors so I have been putting it off. “Shame on me!”  My older cat Molly frequently gets her claws stuck. It really is time for a trim. Last night while we were watching New Years Rockin Eve on TV, Molly decided that it was time to switch positions. She got up but got her claw stuck in the fabric on the couch. I immediately tried to get it loose but she was really stuck this time. As I tried to get her free, she cried louder which made me nervous. A cats immediate reaction is to pull which can hurt her. After struggling for awhile, I finally got her free. She was not too pleased with me but the attitude wore off after a few minutes.

If you don’t know how to trim your cats claws, please have your vet show you and don’t try to do it yourself. Only trim the tips because there is a vein that runs through the claw and if you puncture it, bleeding and pain will occur. This is why it’s important to setup a demonstration by your vet.
