Feeding a kitten

Tuesday, February 12, 2013
posted by Jim Murphy

If you’re thinking of adopting a kitten, it’s important that you know how to feed him properly. Kittens require proper nutrition. Feeding kittens is more complex than feeding a full grown cat. If the mother cat refuses to feed her kittens, you’ll have to feed them with a bottle. One brand of kitten milk is KMR which can be found at major pet stores. Your vet may also suggest a formula that you may use. It’s very important for the kittens to nurse for at least the first few days.

When the kitten is four to eight weeks old, give him a mixture of dry kitten food (0ne part) mixed with cat milk replacement (three parts). You can also feed him one part wet kitten food mixed with two parts of milk replacement. You can gradually reduce the liquid.

From two to three months old, feed the kitten only kitten food until he is at least 10 weeks old.  You can leave the dry food out but mix it with a little water.Feed at least four times a day for this period.

Kittens three to six months ,  feed 1/3 to one cup of kitten food three times a day. You can gradually introduce adult cat food at six months.
