Smaller dogs are preferred for seniors because they are easier to handle and most only require moderate exercise and are lower maintenance.

Yorkshire Terrier

The Yorkshire Terrier makes an excellent companion for seniors because they are easy to carry and don’t require much space. The are perfect for a small apartment. They are a breed with lots of personality and provides lots of love and companionship to it’s owner.

Care is needed if grandchildren come to visit, especially toddlers who could easily hurt the dainty Yorkie.

A Yorkie can live between 13 and 16 years and live lots longer.

Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is easy to train and also can do lots of tricks if trained properly. They do suffer from separation anxiety is left alone for longer periods of time.

The Bichon Frise has a fluffy white coat that needs to be groomed regularly. They are also double coated and do not shed.

They get along well with children. Due to their robust size, they are not likely to get injured. However, care must be taken with toddlers because bichons can snap at them.

The bichon lives between 12 to 15 years but is prone to several severe health conditions that you can discuss with your vet.
