Animal Cruelty At It’s Worst!

Wednesday, October 12, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

pigThis is a story about a despicable hotelier who attempted to set fire, for no reason to two innocent pet dogs in New York City. There are sick people out their and he is one of them.I’m sad to say that my partner worked for this hotel chain and I’m so grateful that he’s not part of this sleazy company anymore.

This article was provided by The New York Post page 6.

The pair of pooches that were allegedly nearly set on fire by Manhattan hotelier Vikram Chatwal last week belong to well-known British gallery owner Sean Kelly — who urged authorities on Monday to prosecute the maniac mogul “to the fullest extent of the law.”

“This guy is dangerous and shouldn’t be on the streets,” the gallerist explained. “Anybody who attacks a defenseless animal in my opinion is the lowest of the low.”

Speaking to The Post while on business in Spain, Kelly described how PupCulture dog walker Isabell Suquilanda and his two pups — 7-year-old Jack Russell terrier siblings Molly and Finn — were “traumatized” after allegedly being attacked by Chatwal as they exited the Brit’s apartment in Soho on Friday.

“They were terrified,” Kelly said. “[Suquilanda] is still very, very upset and rattled. The police asked her to take [the dogs] to the ASPCA on Saturday for an evaluation. They were singed, burned and obviously very, very shaken up.”

Suquilanda, 29, had just walked outside with Kelly’s four-legged best friends around 1:30 p.m. when Chatwal — who once dated supermodels Gisele Bündchen and Kate Moss — came barging over and began berating her about the pups having fleas, according to police sources.

“It was completely unprovoked,” Kelly said. “[Chatwal] was raving about his house being infected with bugs. Isabell had just come downstairs to take the dogs out for their midday walk when he attacked her.”

While yelling at Suquilanda, Chatwal allegedly pulled out a lighter and began burning the pups — using an aerosol can as a makeshift torch.

“He was shouting that they ‘have to die,’” Kelly said. “She protected the dog at her own costs. She could have been burned.”

Chatwal — who is founder of the Dream, Night and Time boutique hotels — was being investigated Monday for possible animal cruelty after the alleged incident. Kelly said cops told him the 44-year-old will likely be charged on Tuesday.

Kelly hopes authorities ultimately throw the book at Chatwal, who is the son of Hampshire Hotels & Resorts founder Sant Singh Chatwal.

“We will be asking for the fullest charges to be brought against him and we want a restraining order against him as well,” Kelly said. “This way, he can’t come near our home or our animals.”

Kelly’s dogs are featured annually on his Manhattan gallery’s Christmas cards — and they’ve even done some modeling in Architectural Digest.

“They are quite famous in their own right,” Kelly said. “We’ve had them since they were 8 weeks old. To us, they are part of our family. And now they’re completely freaked out.”

Chatwal’s company did not respond to a request for comment Monday.

The Beautiful Irish Setter

Tuesday, October 11, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

irishsetterOur neighbor has a beautiful eleven year old Irish Setter. She is extremely friendly an enjoys being around people. These fun-loving dogs are tremendously likeable, not only for their flame-colored hair, but also for their athletic ability grace, and enthusiasm.

The Irish Setter originally developed as a bird dog. She enjoys doing new things and going new places, especially if those places involve birds. Even though you don’t see her in the fields as much as some other sporting breeds, her hunting instinct is still strong.

Even though the Irish Setter is friendly to nearly everyone, they are not suited in ever home. Irish Setters have lots of energy and requires about an hour of exercise every day.

When you live with an Irish Setter, you can be sure that you’re living with a happy, friendly companion who’s always ready to do new and exciting things!

Doggie Massages

Sunday, October 9, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

dogmassageChances are your dog would enjoy a good massage as much as you do. Not deep muscle massage, that’s a job for Physical Therapists at your veterinary clinic. It’s more like a light, relaxing rubdown from head to tail, not to mention a scratch around the ears and tummy. Think about what feels good when you get a massage. Do the same, gently for your dog. Your dog will let you know if anything is tender and hurts. A frequent rubdown, even daily is a good way to know any changes in your dogs condition. If it’s tick season where you are, it’s a good chance to do that important tick check as well. After his massage, give him a treat! He’ll really appreciate it. Remember your pets count!

No Pull Leash

Saturday, October 8, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

dogpullWhen you’re teaching your dog not to pull on his leash, you should use a four or six foot leash.Extendable leashes or longer leashes are great for exercising a dog but they don’t work well when teaching your dog not to pull. So what leashes are the best for this kind of training?

Use a regular buckle or a snap collar.
A limited slip collar or a greyhound collar
Head halter or head collar
No pull harness
A head halter or a no pull harness can decrease pulling enough for you without any additional training. These are effective enough to make the walk for you and your dog more pleasant. You may choose to use a head halter or a pull harness without training but keep in mind that your dog will probably start pulling again if you don’t use them. Dogs learn very specifically. If they are trained not to pull when wearing these devices, they won’t pull when they are not wearing them.

The Docile Greyhound

Tuesday, October 4, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

greyhoundThe other day, while I was enjoying a cocktail at one of our favorite spots in Rehoboth Beach, we met a mellow, friendly Greyhound named Hunter. Hunter is a beautiful dog and is as friendly as his owners. They said that he’s eleven years old, very friendly and enjoys sleeping on the couch  or in his dog bed. If you are thinking of adopting a dog, you may want to consider a Greyhound. Greyhounds do not pull or jump and are very easy to handle. The Greyhound makes  an excellent pet that is calm and gentle while indoors.  Regular exercise and a run or long walk in the park on his dog leash is good for your Greyhound. Unlike some other breeds, the Greyhound is not prone to any diseases and his lifespan in between 10 and 13 years.

According to Pet Md., some of the minor ailments that can affect the breed include osteosarcoma, esophageal achalasia, and gastric torsion. Both the AKC and NGA Greyhounds cannot tolerate barbiturate anesthesia and are susceptible to tail-tip injuries and lacerations, while retired NGA Greyhounds are prone to racing injuries like muscle, toe, and hock injuries.

They have short smooth coats that are easy to care for. Occasional brushing with a good brush will make for sufficient grooming.  So I would recommend that you give a Greyhound a good home, After all, their lives were tough.

What Do Cats Like to Play With?

Tuesday, October 4, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

catandtoyI have a box of all kinds of cat toys ranging from balls, stuffed animals, sticks with sharks at the end as well as lots of toys containing catnip. Did I waste money on all these things? Cats can amuse themselves with almost anything. You can place a pen top on the floor and your cat will think that it’s the greatest thing on earth. All cats love empty paper bags, they love to go inside but also love the sound the bag makes when they go inside. Many cats also love catnip. Even my 17 year old cat, Molly acts like a kitten around cat nip. We are always looking for new cat toys for our cats but remember, they like anything and even the simplest toys will entice your cat. Remember, cats love to play but unlike dogs, who can fetch their dog toy for hours, your cat will play with a new toy for a few minutes until they “shut off.” They’ve had enough. This is how they roll.

Check The Labels of Dog Food

Monday, October 3, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

dogchartWhen purchasing dog food, always check the bag. If it’s labeled “complete and balanced,” it meets the standards of the American Feed Control officials, or AFCO. These dog foods either have an adequate nutrient profile based on laboratory testing or they passed a half year feeding trial. AFCO members includes both government agency and pet food company employees. Dog foods that don’t meet AFCO standards could still be legally sold. They can’t display terms like “complete” or “balanced.” Most veterinarians recommend AFCO approved premium brands. Feeding your dog a high quality diet is one of the most important decisions you can make for his well being.

Eliminating Cat Dander

Monday, October 3, 2016
posted by Jim Murphy

cat-danderIt’s usually cat dander that causes our cat allergies. There are ways to reduce the dander and provide some relief of allergy sufferers.

1. Try not to have your cat sleep in the bed with you. I let mine, but sometimes pay for it in the morning.

2. Wash all bedding with hot water and vacuum out their cat beds at least twice each month.

3. Use HEPA air filters in the rooms where your cats are.

4. Vacuum at two to three times per week using a HEPA filter.

5. Wash your hands immediately after petting your cat and do not rub your eyes. I get itchy eyes for hours, sometimes days if I don’t wash my hands.

6. Confine your cat to an area of the house. Keeping litter boxes, cat toys and cats bedding in one separate area can reduce the amount of dander in the rest of the house.

7. Use pet wipes on your cat regularly to moisten the skin and contain the dander so it doesn’t fly all around the room.

8. Clean the cat bed regularly. Use a vacuum and if you can, it may be a good idea to wash it occasionally.

9. DO NOT GET RID OF YOUR CAT! Prevention can really help the problem.

Beach Breeds

posted by Jim Murphy

springerIf you live near the beach and own a dog, I’m sure that you take your dog to the beach every now and then to toss around some dog toys and exercise him in the early morning or a dusk when everyone’s leaving for the day. There are some dog breeds that have a particular love for surf and sand.

The Springer Spaniel is very loyal and even tempered and they crave regular exercise of any kind but they really love swimming. If you are near the shore that this guy to the shore as often as you can.

Golden Retriever They are on the larger side, easy to train, very faithful and love the water and to fetch. Take him to the beach and bring along lots of dog toys that float.

Newfoundland This is another large dog but his webbed feet make him very suitable for water. This dog was originally bred in Canada as workers for fisherman. They have a particular love for the water.

Enjoy the rest of the summer at the beach with your “best” friend.
