How To Prepare Your Home for Your New Pup

puppyhomeBefore you bring a new puppy home, you should prepare your house. Young dogs seem to get into anything and everything within reach. If you’re not prepared, their curiosity could prove dangerous. Start by looking at your house the way dog would see it. Look down low for items that could be hazardous such as trash, electrical wires or sharp objects. Make sure that you keep pesticides, chemicals, medicines and anti freeze out of reach. The best idea is to store these dangerous items in a locked cabinet. Some houseplants can also prove poisonous to pets so keep them up high. Divert his attention by putting dog toys around for him to play with. Keep his water bowl away for electricity and make sure his dog bed is in a safe, quiet place. No matter how well that you think you puppy proofed your home, you still need to watch your new little friend¬†every carefully.

puppyaccessWhen you bring home a new puppy, you’ll want to have a few essential accessories on hand. Especially formulated puppy food and tip proof food and water bowls. An adjustable cloth or nylon collar along with a leash for those frequent walks that you’ll be taking. A roomy crate, dog carrier or dog bed is also essential because your pup will do a lot of sleeping at first. Don’t forget about an ID tag and put it on his collar right away just in case he wanders off. Other items that come in extremely handy include training pads, grooming supplies and toys for chasing and for chewing. Your energetic new pup will need things to keep him occupied when you’re busy or away from home.
